I will never not be excited for weddings in Acadia National Park and working with Avery and Patrick made this day especially a dream!
Avery and Patrick met over a shared love of horses. Avery grew up with horses, while Patrick – from Texas, didn’t grow up around them. While Avery grew up riding the trails around Acadia, Patrick didn’t fall in love with horses until 2017 and if it wasn’t for that shared love of horses, these two would have never met!
Patrick and Avery planned everything on their wedding day to focus on their love and families. It’s what I really love about small weddings! They spent the morning each getting ready with family before heading off into the park for their first look. Because they were exchanging vows they wanted a private place inside the park – quite the feat during peak season! We did find a beautiful overlook that was completely secluded from tourists. The road above was packed shoulder to shoulder with people and cars but Avery and Patrick had a gorgeous view in a private cove all to themselves where they exchanged the most heartfelt vows!
After the vows we headed over to another spot along the Park Loop Road where we headed out onto the rocks for their ceremony, officiated by Patrick’s sister (and nephew). It was yet another personalized and touching moment of their day – seriously, the entire day was filled with so much emotion and love.
Patrick’s mom and Avery’s dad started the ceremony with a song – as tradition Patrick’s mom has sung at all her children’s wedding but this time she was accompanied by Avery’s dad on guitar while Avery’s mom helped her down the rocks to the ceremony spot.
Since they already read their personal vows during their first look, when Nettie asked them if they had anything else to share, Patrick spoke up and made a vow and promise to Avery’s family and shared the story of how they met. Avery also shared vows to Patrick’s family when it was her turn. Both have such immense love for each other and their families – it was amazing to witness. In fact, we gained a ton of witnesses along the road as people gathered to watch (or quietly exclaim just how gorgeous these two looked!)
After the ceremony and family portraits we headed around the park to a bunch of spots for portraits. We brought the parents along for some sightseeing! It was exciting to even show Avery’s parents some new spots throughout the park and super fun to work with their shuttle van and tour guide from At Your Service Tours. Usually I’m the one plotting the drive, calculating drive time, finding parking, etc but he took charge of all of that! I had to give him a list of spots and he did the planning.
Once we returned to the hotel, they enjoyed cocktail hour with family and a wonderful dinner before sneaking out for a family tradition – a trip to Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium for ice cream and lobster photos! A perfect ending for this Bar Harbor wedding.
