Some places become more than just a location. They become part of your family story. For Erin and Austin, Biddeford Pool is one of those places. Erin’s family has celebrated weddings here throughout the years, making their Abenakee Club Wedding feel like another chapter in a family tradition that has been growing for generations.
From the very beginning, their wedding weekend was centered around the people who mattered most. Family and friends gathered together, spent the weekend in Biddeford Pool, and made the most of every moment leading up to the big day.
A Wedding Weekend Surrounded by Family & Friends
The rehearsal dinner was hosted by family friends at their absolutely gorgeous home just down the street. And honestly, if we had a home like this, we’d probably be entertaining every weekend! The property was the perfect gathering place, and much of Erin and Austin’s wedding party stayed there throughout the weekend.
It also became their getting-ready location on the wedding day.
The girls took over the main house while the guys settled into the “man cave” apartment above the garage. It was the perfect setup for everyone to be together while still giving Erin and Austin time apart before the ceremony.
One of our favorite parts of the morning was watching Erin and Austin exchange gifts with each other and their parents. There were gifts from Austin’s mom, Erin’s parents, and plenty of emotional moments as everyone took a little time to share something meaningful.
Erin received a particularly sentimental gift: a handkerchief made from her mother’s wedding dress. It was a beautiful way to carry a piece of her mom’s wedding day into her own, and even better, it matched Erin’s getting-ready robe.
Austin’s mom gave him an engraved pocket watch, another thoughtful keepsake that he can carry with him long after the wedding day.
There were a LOT of tears during these gift exchanges. Some of the teariest we’ve photographed and we loved every moment of it.
An Abenakee Club Ceremony Filled With Family History
The ceremony took place on the lawn of the Abenakee Club, with beautiful views stretching toward the ocean. The coastal setting was the perfect backdrop for a couple whose history together goes back so many years.
Erin and Austin have been dating since high school, so when their officiant, a member of the family, spoke about their relationship, there was plenty of history to tell.
Their officiant shared stories from their childhood and talked about how Erin and Austin were each other’s first loves. It was personal, heartfelt, and filled with the kind of stories that only someone who has known you and your family for years could tell.
There was something especially meaningful about hearing their love story told by someone who had watched it unfold.
Taking a Moment to Breathe
After the ceremony, Erin and Austin had a little dress mishap while making their way back down the aisle. Once everything was fixed, we decided to give the newlyweds a few minutes away from the crowd.
We snuck Erin and Austin down to the spot where her father docks his boat.
It was exactly what they needed.
Away from the excitement and all of the people waiting to celebrate with them, they could finally stop for a moment and take in the fact that they were married. They took a few deep breaths, relaxed, and simply enjoyed being together.
For us, these quiet moments are some of the most important photographs we make on a wedding day. Not every meaningful memory happens during the ceremony or reception. Sometimes it’s those few minutes when a couple gets to step away, look at each other, and realize, we actually did it.
And getting to photograph Erin and Austin in a place that holds so much meaning for their family made it even more special.
A Party That Didn’t Want to End
Once we made our way back to the tent, the quiet moment was officially over.
It was a party from start to finish.
Erin and Austin’s friends and family filled the tent with dancing, laughter, and an incredible amount of energy. You could tell just how much everyone loved being together, and it felt like the kind of celebration where nobody was ready for the night to end.
Honestly, we’re pretty sure Erin and Austin and their guests could have kept dancing for hours longer.
Their Abenakee Club Wedding was the perfect reflection of who they are: rooted in family, surrounded by lifelong friends, full of sentimental moments, and followed by one heck of a party.
We loved every minute of this Biddeford Pool wedding and were so honored to document another chapter in a place that has been such an important part of Erin’s family’s history. There’s something pretty incredible about photographing a wedding where you can feel the generations that came before and the generations still to come.
