Meet Brittany and Dean

Meet Brittany and Dean, the vibrant duo behind Two Adventurous Souls. When they’re not capturing life’s magical moments through their lenses, they’re immersed in the joys of everyday life with their two daughters, two cats, and an Australian Shepherd. Our days are filled with kitchen dance parties or exploring the scenic trails of Maine and New Hampshire. Their love for adventure extends to surfing, swimming, all things involving the ocean & mountains, and a shared passion for Star Wars, 80’s & 90’s music, and saving the planet!

Their journey together began unexpectedly in the mundane world of office jobs. Brittany, a fresh art school graduate with a focus in graphic design and photography, found amusement in launching rubber bands and paper clips at Dean, who was often caught trying to sneak in a nap amidst the monotony. It wasn’t until an Aerosmith & KISS concert that their connection took a pivotal turn. As they sat under the stars, Brittany’s bold confession of “I like you!” over the roar of music led to Dean’s iconic reply: “I know!” This marked the beginning of a lifelong adventure, culminating in a breathtaking wedding on a picturesque Maine island, followed by a honeymoon in the lush landscapes of Costa Rica.

Now, 17 years of marriage later, their home filled with love, laughter, and the occasional sound of their cats Astro and Aurora (named after Dean’s passion for night sky photography) prowling about, Brittany and Dean have intertwined their passions for photography and nature. Living close to the ocean they find endless inspiration for their photography: both personal and professional.

At Two Adventurous Souls, Brittany and Dean continue to turn even the smallest moments into extraordinary memories, capturing the beauty and spontaneity of life one image at a time.

Going Pro: Our Photographic Adventure

Our journey into professional photography began from a place of unexpected inspiration. Before the era of smartphones and instant photo sharing, we experienced a pivotal moment that would shape our future. In 2007, some close friends expressed their disappointment with the photos from their wedding, taken by a photographer who failed to meet their expectations. They were so dissatisfied that they decided to restage their wedding and, to our surprise, they asked Brittany to take the new photos. This unique and challenging assignment turned out to be a beautiful, albeit unconventional, start to our professional path.

The success of this reshoot fueled Brittany’s passion and led her to officially start Brittany Rae Photography. Dean began as a supportive assistant, helping with logistics and equipment, but it wasn’t long before his natural talent with the camera became apparent. His knack for capturing unique angles and moments complemented Brittany’s style so well that she couldn’t help but make him a permanent part of the team. And just like that, Two Adventurous Souls was born.

Now, our portfolio spans weddings, family portraits, and bespoke imagination photography. While we specialize in wedding photography, our diverse experiences help us capture each story with freshness and authenticity. When we’re not photographing, Dean explores the art of astrophotography, capturing the stars from the mountains or beaches—a passion that has earned his images numerous awards, spots in galleries, and on his site, WanderlandPhotographic.com. Our work has been recognized by the Maine Professional Photographers Association and the Professional Photographers of America, and featured in numerous wedding publications.

Yet, like all dreamers, we have our sights set on even grander adventures—perhaps one day capturing sharks underwater for National Geographic. Until then, we continue to craft visual stories that celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of each moment we capture.
