Today could have gone a lot different – Sarah tried to bail on her first date with Ben. She was a sophomore in high school and a mutual friend set them up on essentially a blind date to the prom. Sarah was nervous about going to the prom with a stranger and underclassman so said she couldn’t find a dress in time. The mutual friend that set them up brought Sarah his girlfriends prom dress from the year before and it ended up fitting like a glove. What would be the start of several “Cinderella moments” for Sarah. The dress was even blue! All of Sarah’s friends told her it was a sign that she had to go. And they’ve been together ever since!
”Almost 9 years later and Ben stills makes me laugh every day. When he took me to Maine (my favorite place) and proposed on our Acadia trip I was reminded of just how lucky I got with him.”
Sarah and Ben’s wedding was an unforgettable celebration! From their engagement session earlier that week along Marginal Way in Ogunquit to their grand entrance onto the lawn of the Colony, every moment was filled with happiness and excitement. I mean, just look at those two beaming from ear to ear!
The engagement session earlier this week served as a perfect opportunity for me to get to know Sarah and Ben before their big day. Little did I know that Sarah was already wearing her stunning reception dress during the shoot, giving me a sneak peek of just one of the several amazing dresses she had planned. We captured some breathtaking sunset photos which was fantastic because the wedding day would end with an epic thunderstorm.
The getting ready process took place at a restored farmhouse nestled on the creek off the Kennebunk River. This beautiful property provided space for everyone to relax and prepare for the day ahead.
Leading up to the ceremony, a severe thunderstorm warning loomed overhead, threatening the outdoor events. The positive energy of the couple and their loved ones seemed to ward off the rain until dinner began. So everything went as planned outside! Sarah and Ben exchange vows under the bluebird skies and cool breezes brought by the storm.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds made a grand entrance onto the lawn of the Colony, where their guests were enjoying drinks and food. After their entrance Sarah and Ben lead everyone into the gold ballroom for an evening of dinner and dancing.
The dance floor quickly became the center of the celebration with every guest partying it up! Even Laverne the lobster made her presence known, becoming a very popular party guest who managed to steal the show. Despite losing a few limbs in the process, Laverne was, fortunately, a plastic lobster, making her enthusiastic participation all the more entertaining.
As the night came to a close, guests proceeded downstairs to the lounge for the after party while Sarah and Ben shared one more dance on the dance floor in the ballroom all to themselves!
