When your wedding weekend happens to coincide with a Nor’easter, you might expect the weather to steal the show. But for Sierra and Ben, it did anything but. Their Red Barn at Outlook Farm Wedding was filled with family, friends, music, laughter, teary vows, dancing, and even fireworks all while a storm rolled through Maine.

With most of their guests traveling from out of town, everyone had a bit of an adventure just getting to the wedding. Guests drove through the storm to make it to Maine, and somehow, once everyone arrived, we were rewarded with a beautiful wedding day. There were sprinkles on and off throughout the day, but nothing was going to put a damper on Sierra and Ben’s celebration.

The wedding day began at the Stage House Inn in South Berwick, where Sierra got ready in a suite surrounded by her closest friends.

But she had what might be the best getting-ready idea we’ve ever seen: a bridal suite DJ! Sierra’s friend, and bridesman, also happens to be a professional DJ, so he set up in the suite and spun tunes while everyone got ready. It was the perfect way to set the vibe for the entire day. Instead of the usual quiet morning of getting ready, the room was filled with music, laughter, and the kind of energy that made it very clear this was going to be a party.

The Red Barn at Outlook Farm is a popular Southern Maine wedding venue in South Berwick, offering a classic New England setting with a historic barn, beautiful grounds, gardens, and plenty of space for both ceremonies and receptions.

The combination of rustic New England charm and the surrounding countryside makes The Red Barn at Outlook Farm a wonderful backdrop for a Fall wedding. And while Sierra and Ben’s day may have been a little wetter than anyone originally planned, the venue provided the perfect setting for their celebration with a great backup option.

Because of the weather, Sierra and Ben’s ceremony was moved inside as a precaution. And honestly? It turned out perfectly.

The intimate indoor setting made the ceremony feel even more personal as Sierra and Ben exchanged teary vows surrounded by the people who had braved the storm to celebrate with them. There were plenty of emotional moments, but there was also a lot of laughter. And that combination felt so perfectly them—a ceremony that was heartfelt without taking itself too seriously.

Once they said “I do,” it was time to celebrate.

One of our favorite things about wedding days is finding opportunities to make the most of whatever weather Maine decides to throw at us.

During cocktail hour, we managed to sneak Sierra and Ben outside for couples portraits. The rain had given us a break, so we took advantage of the relatively dry window and made the most of it. The result? Beautiful portraits of the newlyweds enjoying a quiet moment together while the storm clouds continued to move around us.

And thankfully, the rain held off long enough for us to keep celebrating.

If there was one thing the weather definitely couldn’t affect, it was the dance floor. From start to finish, it was packed. Friends and family sang along, danced together, and celebrated Sierra and Ben like there was nowhere else they needed to be. The Music Man DJ’s kept the music going with a fantastic mix of songs, and the energy never seemed to drop.

Even Dean and I couldn’t help but dance along while we photographed the reception, which is always a pretty good indication that the party is a good one!

And then, just when we thought the night couldn’t get any better, there were fireworks.

The evening ended with an incredible surprise: fireworks lighting up the sky before the rain finally decided it was time to arrive.

We had just enough time to enjoy the fireworks before the downpour came through, literally just after the wedding ended.

Talk about perfect timing.

After everyone had spent the day navigating a Nor’easter to get there, the wedding gods gave Sierra and Ben one final gift: a celebration that made it through the storm, followed by fireworks and one heck of a party.

Sierra and Ben’s Red Barn at Outlook Farm Wedding was a perfect example of why we always tell our couples not to let the weather dictate how they feel about their wedding day.

Yes, it rained.

Yes, there were sprinkles throughout the day.

Yes, guests had to drive through a Nor’easter to get there.

But there were also heartfelt vows, endless laughter, a bridal suite DJ, beautiful couples portraits, a packed dance floor, fireworks, and a room full of people who clearly couldn’t wait to celebrate these two.

As Maine wedding photographers, these are the wedding days we love. The days that don’t go exactly according to plan but somehow end up being even more memorable because of it.
