There are some wedding days where you leave feeling like you didn’t just photograph a wedding you made new friends. Allie and Jacob’s celebration at The Foggy Pearl in Hancock, Maine was exactly that. From the stunning oceanfront setting to the laughter, family stories, surprise gifts, sunshowers, rainbows, and plenty of jump kicks, this was a day we absolutely loved being part of.
The Foggy Pearl is a newer oceanfront Maine wedding venue, and we were thrilled when Allie and Jacob introduced us to this beautiful property. Sitting right on the water with gorgeous views of the mountains of Acadia National Park in the distance, it is an incredible setting for a Maine wedding.
The morning began at the Island House, where Allie got ready with her sister, mom, and friends. Champagne flowed, stories were shared, and there was plenty of laughter and reminiscing about years gone by. And, of course, Penny was there.
Penny is Allie and Jacob’s dog and, as everyone quickly discovered, it was clearly Penny’s wedding day. She wasn’t particularly interested in being photographed, preferring to remain camera shy while all of these people came to see her. Eventually, after getting sufficiently tired from greeting everyone, she relaxed enough for us to capture some beautiful portraits of her. Worth the wait!
Across the property, Jacob and his friends were getting ready in one of the homes right on the water. There were also some incredibly meaningful details woven throughout the day. Allie surprised Jacob with a gold ring she had purchased for him so that his ring would coordinate with hers. He had no idea it was coming until she slipped on his finger during the ceremony!
Allie also wore several beautiful heirlooms from her grandmother, including a stunning infinity circle necklace and an heirloom watch. Having these pieces with her throughout the day was a beautiful way to keep her grandmother close and Grandma clearly had incredible style.
A Ceremony Filled With Love From Every Guest
One of the most meaningful parts of Allie and Jacob’s ceremony was an activity they created specifically to include every single person who had come to celebrate with them.
Before the ceremony began, family members passed out rocks to each guest. Everyone was asked to hold onto their rock, make a wish, and fill it with good thoughts and positive energy for Allie and Jacob. Then, during the ceremony, every guest was invited to come forward and place their rock into a bowl.
It was such a beautiful way to make their family and friends an active part of their wedding ceremony rather than simply having them watch from their seats. Each rock represented the love, hopes, and good wishes of someone important to the couple. After the wedding, Allie and Jacob planned to bring the bowl home, where it will serve as a lasting reminder of their wedding day and all of the people who surrounded them with love.
The ceremony brought a little Maine weather with it. A quick sunshower sent guests running for the cover of the tent, but, just like the other little sprinkles throughout the day, it disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived. And when the final drops faded away, they left behind something even better, a beautiful rainbow appearing just after the ceremony ended.
It felt like the perfect punctuation mark on an already incredible ceremony.
Jacob is an artist who works with stone, and he created a gorgeous photo booth frame for guests to enjoy during the reception. But his creativity didn’t stop there. When he made his way down the aisle, he danced, jumped, and even incorporated a few jump kicks into his entrance. Those same moves made appearances throughout the evening. It was very clear that Jacob was having the absolute time of his life and utterly adores Allie! He is even taking her last name instead of the other way around (we LOVE that!)
The reception continued with plenty of laughter, dancing, and time spent with family and friends. One of our favorite moments was Allie’s dance with her dad. The two attempted to recreate some of the moves Allie and Jacob had incorporated into their first dance, only this time they switched things around. At one point, Allie attempted to dip her dad, much to everyone’s amusement!
Everywhere we looked, there were people laughing, hugging, dancing, and simply enjoying being together. It was the kind of celebration where you could feel how much these families loved each other.
As Foggy Pearl Wedding Photographers, we were incredibly honored to be part of Allie and Jacob’s first wedding at this beautiful new Hancock venue. We loved getting to know their families, exploring The Foggy Pearl, and documenting all of the wonderfully imperfect, hilarious, emotional, and beautiful moments that made their day theirs.
And we’re especially grateful that Allie and Jacob introduced us to The Foggy Pearl. We absolutely cannot wait to go back!
