Macauley and Michael first met in Portland Maine. They dated for about 8 month before Macauley left for University of Chicago to earn her Masters. Being a bit new in the relationship they left it with a “we shall see how it goes long distance”. Many back and forth trips, thousands of emails and phone call later, Michael packed his car and a u-haul and headed to the Windy City.
They settled into their apartment and adopted a cat named Daniel Tiger. Daniel for short. About a year later Michael gave Macauley’s parents a call and was so very nervous to ask for their blessing in marrying Macauley. He proposed on Peaks Island in August of 2019, with his grandmother Marilyn’s engagement ring. The entire family was at their yearly house they rented on Peaks and were all in the proposal.
Macauley’s mom is a wedding planner and was on her way up to Bar Harbor for a weekend wedding and called all her favorite vendors and had them locked in by the time she arrived. Macauley and Mike wanted a boho type wedding on the water, had to be in Maine, and needed a barn- the 1774 Inn was a perfect fit!
Today Michael added his grandmothers wedding band to Macauley’s engagement ring and he was given Macauley’s grandfathers wedding band. Macauley’s grandfather passed when she was little, but knows all the stories of him. She also carried in her bouquet an opal earring from her grandmother Claire.
It will be a weekend they remember forever!
