What a fun way to kick off the 2022 event season than with Ian’s Bar Mitzvah. I’ve worked several times at this synagogue for lots of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and I love it! This is one of the few synagogues I’ve worked at that has allowed me to take photos during the service.

I’m not Jewish and I don’t understand a word of Hebrew but I always am amazed at these young adults who, by 13, have mastered reading and speaking their religious texts. At 13 I was barely grasping basic Spanish!

Ian and his family were such a joy to work with. I loved their energy and love for every single guest who came out to celebrate. Even Ian’s grandfather who ribbed me a few times about how I say “perfect” after every group image. Now I’m acutely aware of it! That’s okay, I mixed it up later in the day with other adjectives to keep him entertained.

The morning started early with family portraits outside the synagogue before heading in for the service. After that all the kids boarded the bus and headed to the reception. I love how the reception was geared towards both the adults and kids in different ways. The kids were served their meals during the cocktail hour so that during the dinner hour for the parents, the kids were playing games with the DJ. Everything from trivia, to some limbo, and a few other fun interactive games.
