A Saltwater Start to Forever | Acadia Wedding Photographer

Heidi and Steve’s wedding day was a perfect blend of intimate simplicity, Maine charm, and joyful love. Everything you could hope for in a Bar Harbor elopement.

Their day began at the Salt Cottage, tucked just outside downtown Bar Harbor. This cozy seaside spot was the perfect place for them to prep together, enjoying each other’s presence from the very start. With the scent of salt air drifting through the windows, Heidi handcrafted her own bouquet, and the two shared quiet, tender moments while getting ready. Steve helped fasten the buttons on her dress, and Heidi returned the favor by making sure his accessories were just right. It was all so personal and intentional the kind of start to a marriage that feels deeply rooted in love and teamwork.

For their ceremony, we made our way into Acadia National Park, following the oceanside path to one of my favorite tucked-away spots with views that never disappoint. As their Acadia wedding photographer and officiant! I had the honor of standing with them as they exchanged heartfelt vows. The only other witnesses were a pair of newlyweds passing by with their pup, who paused to celebrate this sweet moment with us.

During the ceremony, Heidi and Steve shared how they met years ago, and how life eventually brought them back to each other when the timing was just right. “Steve, my otter,” Heidi said with a laugh and a tear in her eye and ended her vows with “Your peaches.” Those nicknames might sound playful, but behind them is a deep bond that’s built on laughter, support, and years of growth.

After the ceremony, we wandered through Acadia to capture portraits in some of the park’s most iconic spots. From granite cliffs to pine-lined trails, each location reflected the natural beauty of the park and the easy, joyful love these two share.

Of course, no Maine wedding is complete without lobster! We headed to The Travelin’ Lobster, my absolute favorite roadside seafood stand. Live music, oysters, and buttery lobster rolls set the stage for a spontaneous little celebration. People around cheered and offered congratulations, excited to see a newly married couple soaking up every moment of their day.

As the sun dipped lower, we returned to the Salt Cottage for a champagne toast and one final beach walk at sunset. With waves lapping at the shore and golden light wrapping around them, Heidi and Steve’s day came to a gentle, beautiful close.

If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, heartfelt wedding in one of the most scenic places in the country, I’d love to help you plan and photograph it. Whether you’re sharing vows on a cliffside in Acadia or toasting lobster rolls at a roadside shack, these are the kinds of stories I live to tell.
