Summer evenings in Bar Harbor are truly something special—and this one was no exception. Connie, the matriarch of a close-knit and lively family, invited me to the island to capture an extended family session while they were all together in their favorite place. For generations, Bar Harbor has been their summer home-away-from-home, and it was the perfect setting to preserve this season of their lives.
As a Bar Harbor photographer, I know how much the location adds to the emotion and story of a session. We met at a quiet, rocky beach tucked away from the crowds, where the kids immediately started searching for the best skipping stones. With every tossed rock and shared laugh, I could feel the joy of this family simply being together. The light danced beautifully on the water, creating the perfect golden-hour glow for portraits of Connie with her children and grandchildren—images I know will be treasured for decades.
As the sun began to set, the family gathered around a campfire they built right on the beach. The smell of wood smoke, the crackle of the fire, and the sticky fingers from roasting s’mores added a sense of warmth and nostalgia to the evening. It was the perfect way to end a session that was less about posing and more about presence.
Family sessions like this one are why I love being a Bar Harbor Photographer, there’s something incredibly meaningful about photographing multi-generational families in a place that holds so many memories.
If you’re planning your own extended family session in Bar Harbor, I’d love to help you capture the laughter, love, and little moments that make your family’s story unique.
