Spring in Maine can be unpredictable. One day brings sunshine and warm temperatures, while the next calls for rain and strong winds. This year has been especially challenging when it comes to planning outdoor family sessions, so when the forecast started looking uncertain, we made the decision to move the Reid family’s session a little earlier in the weekend.
As it turned out, the change couldn’t have worked out better.
As a Reid State Park Family Photographer, I’ve learned that sometimes the best sessions happen when you’re willing to be flexible. We were greeted with a breezy but absolutely beautiful spring day at Reid State Park. The sunshine sparkled on the water, the skies were clear, and best of all, the park was surprisingly quiet.
One of the things I love most about photographing families at Reid State Park is the variety of scenery. Between the sandy beaches, rocky coastline, grassy dunes, and ocean views, there are endless opportunities for beautiful photographs. Since the park was nearly empty during their session, we had the freedom to explore all over without worrying about other visitors appearing in the background of photos.
The Reid family embraced the adventure from the very beginning. There were plenty of laughs, lots of running along the shoreline, and of course, some splashing in the water. The breeze added movement to the photographs, creating a relaxed and playful feeling that perfectly matched the family’s energy.
Some of my favorite moments from the session weren’t the perfectly posed portraits, but the candid interactions between family members. The giggles, the sandy feet, and the spontaneous splashes in the surf are the moments that truly tell the story of a family vacation in Maine.
One of the things I enjoy most about being a Reid State Park Family Photographer is introducing visiting families to some of Maine’s most beautiful locations. Many of my clients travel from out of state, and it’s always fun to share recommendations for local attractions, hidden gems, and of course, where to find great food after a session.
After wrapping up the photos, we headed over to one of our favorite local spots, Five Islands Lobster. There’s nothing quite like enjoying fresh Maine seafood while overlooking the harbor after a day at the beach. To our surprise, we ran into the Reid family there as well as they were picking up takeout for lunch! It was the perfect ending to a wonderful morning spent exploring the coast.
Sessions like this are a reminder that some of the best family memories are made when you simply embrace the day as it comes. A little breeze, some sandy toes, and plenty of laughter are often all you need for beautiful photographs and unforgettable memories.
Thank you to the Reid family for spending part of your Maine adventure with us. We loved showing you around one of our favorite corners of the coast and hope your photographs always bring you back to this beautiful spring day at Reid State Park.
