There is something magical about the Maine coast after a rainy day. As a Kennebunkport Wedding Photographer, we’ve learned that some of the most beautiful sunsets appear just after the clouds clear, and Rachel and Dan’s engagement session at Colony Beach was the perfect example.
The day had been filled with rain, but by evening the skies opened up and treated us to one of the most vibrant sunsets of the season. The incoming tide covered much of the beach, creating reflective puddles and dramatic waves that made the landscape even more beautiful. Rather than avoiding the water, Rachel and Dan embraced the adventure, and we spent the evening exploring the shoreline together.
One of our favorite parts of the session was discovering a new section of the park and climbing among the rocky coastline. The changing light created endless opportunities for unique photographs, and the puddles left behind by the rain became natural mirrors reflecting the colorful sky. The combination of soft evening light, ocean waves, and dramatic clouds created a stunning backdrop for every image.
Rachel looked absolutely incredible in a flowing yellow dress that seemed to glow against the warm sunset colors. The bright yellow stood out beautifully against the blues and oranges of the sky, adding a cheerful pop of color to the coastal scenery. As the sun dipped lower toward the horizon, the entire beach seemed to light up around them.
What made this session even more special was seeing how naturally Rachel and Dan interact with each other. Whether they were laughing while navigating the rocks, splashing through puddles, or simply watching the sunset together, their connection made every moment effortless to photograph.
As a Kennebunkport Wedding Photographer, sessions like this remind us why we love photographing couples along the Maine coast. The weather may not always cooperate, but sometimes a little rain leads to the most unforgettable evenings.
