Serendipity: The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way
So I just can’t rave enough about that Pura Vida spirit in Costa Rica and all of the happy chance meetings Dean and I had during our last trip to Costa Rica. While on our first excursion to a secluded beach for an engagement session our tour guides were chatting with us about what kind of work we photograph. One of our colleagues happen to mention that, along with weddings, we photograph mermaids. Well, guess who one of the tour guides good friends does? She’s a professional mermaid!! How’s that for Serendipity?
After exchanging emails and info with the tour guides we managed to set up a mermaid session, and subsequent sessions with the tour guide and her boyfriend! More on their shoot in another post! This post is all mermaids!
Stephanie met Dean and I on the side of the road and 5am and picked us up to drive out to the volcanic rock beach down the road. That’s sort of how things work in Costa Rica. You make fast friends and they’re willing to pick up two strangers on the side of the road and conversely we were willing to hop into the car of a stranger, with all of our photo gear and head off on an adventure! The area and people are so friendly and trusting it’s left us not being able to put into words the love we encountered there and the friends we will hopefully stay in touch with and see over and over again when we return.

¡Pura Vida! Costa Rica Photographers capture a mermaid!
We were so excited to get out and use our drone for a few shots of this session. It shows just how clear the water is! We were able to take some videos which show off the water much better. Those will be coming shortly once we get a new video editing computer – ours died two days before we left for the trip!! The water below is so clear! She’s in the water up to her waist and you can’t tell! Oh the water!!! Just absolutely stunning!
